Learning Outcomes /Competencies :
 
 At end of the module, the participants will be able to: 
 1. Examine issues in adolescent development from  a range of different theoretical perspectives.
       
       1.1 Identify the key features of the period of adolescence
       1.2 Refer to theories and concepts while dealing with school-related adolescent problems
       1.3 Evaluate the threats of the school performance that adolescents encounter
       1.4 Comprehend the nature of self-concept and its relationship to students' academic achievement and personal and social development
       1.5 List possible factors that influence adolescent development
       
 2. Identify the major developmental challenges and problem behaviours in adolescence.
       
       2.1 State the physical changes (in terms of puberty, nutrition and body image) that adolescents experience
       2.2 Comprehend the cognitive changes that adolescents experience
       2.3 List different parenting styles and their impact on adolescent development
       2.4 Identify the influences attributed by family and peer on adolescent development
       2.5 Evaluate the factors that enhance or inhibit studentsˇ¦ career and talent development
       2.6 Identify the sources of stress, and the stress symptoms, that are common for teens
       
 3. Utilize knowledge, constructive attitudes and skills in guiding and counselling  adolescents.
       
       3.1 Differentiate between guidance and counseling
       3.2 Understand the teachers' roles in guidance at school
       3.3 Equip themselves with skills and mindsets to become a competent facilitative teacher
       3.4 Understand how teachers can influence the self-esteem of their students n the classroom
       3.5 Acquire the skills of enhancing students' self-esteem through the use of some practical strategies and activities
       
 4. Review the key theories, concepts, and research on adolescent development.
       
       4.1 Identify strengths and constraints by applying Piaget's theory into practice
       4.2 Apply some theories to explain the issue of drug abuse
       4.3 Analyse real cases by applying attachment theory
       4.4 Understand that sources of stress can be different for different people and learn that stress is a normal part of everyoneˇ¦s life
       
 5. Plan effective strategies to support adolescent development in an inclusive school setting. 
       
       5.1 Suggest some guidance services at school to facilitate the whole-person development of students
       5.2 Suggest appropriate strategies to deal with the problems of drug abuse
       5.3 Suggest strategies to help adolescents cope with the influences by family and peers
       5.4 Learn positive strategies for handling or reducing stress
       5.5 Suggest strategies / programmes to prevent problems in adolescence
       
  6. Develop their teamwork and problem solving skills.
       
       6.1 Suggest appropriate strategies to enhance studentsˇ¦ confidence in applying life skills in career and talent development
       6.2 List career education activities that help students understand their strengths and interests
       6.3 Design a class guidance activity to help students develop stress management skills
       6.4 Identify their roles in the whole school approach of guidance at school
       6.5 Apply theories and give sufficient rationales for any intervention plan
       6.6 Develop different skills (e.g. communication, helping, critical thinking and problem-solving skills) to tackle novel situations and ill-defined problems

  
  7. Recognize personal  strengths and weaknesses in their practice of guidance.
