Oscars Nominee Bombay Jayashri Ramnath to Perform at HKU
World renowned Indian classical musician, Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, will be on a tour to Hong Kong from 24th January to 26th January, 2017 and she will be performing at The University of Hong Kong at 19:30 on 24th January. The performance will be combined with demonstration introducing the aesthetics in Indian music.
Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, a Carnatic music vocalist, is most famously known globally for her soulful renditions in Ang Lee’s acclaimed film Life of Pi. She has received India’s most celebrated music awards and has been a cultural ambassador through her extensive worldwide travels and performances. She has had the rare privilege of being the first Carnatic classical performer at the Opera House in Durban and The Russian Opera House in Helsinki.
At the performance and demonstration at HKU, Bombay Jayashri will be accompanied by Mysore Srikanth, one of India’s leading violinists, Manoj Siva on the Mridangam, and B. S. Purushotham, one of the most sought after percussion artists in India, on Khanjira.
This event is co-organised by Spic Macay Hong Kong, General Education Unit, Department of Music and CYM Cultural Centre of HKU.

About Bombay Jayashri Ramnath
Bombay Jayashri Ramnath is an accomplished Carnatic vocalist, music composer, writer, and 2013 Oscars Nominee for Best Original Song – Pi’s Lullaby in Ang Lee’s International Hit Life of Pi. Jayashri was born in Calcutta into a family of music connoisseurs and musicians. While growing up in Mumbai, she started training in Carnatic music under the guidance of her parents Seetha and N. N. Subramaniam. She has performed at various festivals and venues all across India and in over twenty different countries, including the US, UK, Switzerland, France, Finland, and Spain.

香港大學美術博物館展覽
1. 探索媒介與圖像主題的回顧展覽 《中西合相——當代圖騰:呂豐雅從藝四十載》
展出日期:即日至3月26日(星期日)
呂豐雅是一位繪圖師、畫家、雕塑家,是香港當代藝術的奠基人之一。他的作品美輪美奐、技藝精湛、異乎尋常,對造型與顏色的應用多年如一。呂豐雅的創作題材很少局限於單一文化,因為他已於周邊世界對自我的國際、多元影響之中,發展出自成一派的圖像語言。對於以不同的方法表現多樣的材料,他早已熟稔於心,這助他反復探求包羅萬象的主題與視覺表現,並應用許多技法,成為大師獨一無二的「藝術圖騰」。從展覽藝術品的尺寸和體積之中,觀者能夠充分體會他對二維藝術和三維藝術的游刃有餘,並精於創造二者之間的對話。

2. 美國境外之首次展出 《水盡雲起——金賽收藏之非洲裔美國人的藝術及歷史》展覽
展出日期:即日至2月26日(星期日)
此次展覽將展出超過120件藝術藏品,主題圍繞著非洲裔美國人的藝術及歷史,當中包括繪畫、雕塑以致極爲罕有的第一版書籍和手稿、信件及官方記錄檔案,引證了非裔美國人的勇氣和希望,以及每當面對挑戰時,依然能夠迎難而上,讓世人聽到他們的聲音、認同他們的成就。「金賽收藏」已於24個美國城市吸引超過600萬人參觀,並且是首間私人收藏於史密森尼學會管理的美國國家歷史博物館中展出。部分「金賽收藏」正長期駐展於佛羅里達州奧蘭多迪士尼世界的「艾波卡特主題公園」,每年吸引數以百萬遊客到訪。
