Joint education workshop at HKU brings academics and industry together (English only)

The Education Workshop on Drug Discovery and Development” was held at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) on February 15, 2017 (Wednesday). Hosted by HKU, the workshop was jointly organised by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). The workshop aimed at introducing the knowledge base required for drug discovery and development, informing and familarising attendees with the services and expertise offered through HKU, SJTU and HKSTP and providing various collaboration and career opportunities.

The mission of the HKU-SJTU-HKSTP Translational Medicine Consortium is a nexus bringing together HKU talents, Mainland and international partners, public agencies, and industry by taking full advantage of the joint academic attributes, assets, and expertise. The Consortium serves as a platform where distinct strengths of each institution can be synergised and coordinated along the drug discovery and development continuum: from basic research to development to pre-clinical and clinical studies, at the same time convene a wider range of stakeholders and expertise. The workshop was attended by participants from higher education sector (academic and administrative), to a range of industry stakeholders and researchers. Topics included discovery pipeline in academia, drug discovery in industry, drug repurposing as well as intellectual property rights and entrepreneurship are highlighted in the joint workshop.

HKU, SJTU and HKSTP are pleased with the genuine synergy of the shared mission to advance selected medical technologies down the development path while expanding its valuable data portfolio. The Consortium establishes an international, multi-institutional ecosystem in improving processes to advance therapeutics development.
