Hong Kong, July 6, 2020 – Covid-19 has plunged the global economy into its deepest recession since the Great Depression. Lockdowns and travel restrictions have led to bankruptcies, layoffs and a sharp fall in global trade. The latest Global Thinkers event of the Asia Global Institute (AGI) will examine the resilience of the economic rebounds from widespread shutdowns and travel restrictions, and how patterns of globalization and multilateral cooperation might change as governments, the business sector and multilateral organizations reset national, regional and global economies for a post-pandemic world.
Featuring Michael Spence, AGI advisory board co-chair and Nobel Laureate in economics, and Mari Pangestu, AGI distinguished fellow and managing director of development policy and partnerships at the World Bank, the debate will be moderated by Victor K Fung, AGI advisory board co-chair and group chairman of the Fung Group, and will be broadcast online live from Hong Kong, Milan and Washington DC.
Members of the press are welcome to join the webcast on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 18:45 to 19:45 (Hong Kong time). Please register here and send questions for the speakers to agimail@hku.hk
