2022年11月28日
Hong Kong Geography Day 2022, co-organised by the Department of Geography at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong Geographical Association, was held on HKU Main Campus on November 26 (Saturday) in hybrid mode.
Hong Kong Geography Day is a biennial event to be organised by geography-related departments from local universities on a rotation basis, aiming to promote geography knowledge among the public and secondary school students, as well as providing a platform for researchers from local universities to share the findings of their research work.
The theme of this year’s event is “climate change mitigation and adaptation”, which highlighted the prospects, issues, challenges, and practical examples of climate change at the local, regional, and global scales.
At the opening ceremony, two keynote speeches were given by Professor Peng GONG, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development) of HKU, and Mr. Chiu-ying LAM, Chairman of the Hong Kong Countryside Foundation and Former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory. An award ceremony was held for the secondary school winners of the International and Hong Kong Geography Olympiad in 2020 and 2021.
Moreover, four universities including HKU, the Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Education University of Hong Kong, introduced their geography programmes on the occasion. A secondary school talk on “A Practical Understanding of the Compulsory Modules in the HKDSE Geography Curriculum” was given by Mr. Patrick TAM, Former Assessment Manager of The Hong Kong Examination and Assessment Authority.
Various government departments and private companies also set up booths to exhibit their climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts during the event. A prize presentation ceremony was held during the closing ceremony for winners of the Postgraduate Student Paper/Poster Competitions involving research students from local universities. It is estimated that more than 480 people, including 180 in-person and around 300 online, participated in the event.
