DVD Launching Seminar: Promoting New Literacies in Hong Kong Schools
The Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong and the Quality Education Fund (QEF) are pleased to announce the launch of the DVD from the project, Promoting New Literacies in Hong Kong Schools. This project explored the potential of digital, mobile and popular cultural literacies to enrich English language learning and teaching in Hong Kong schools, and facilitated schools to integrate new literacies into the senior primary (P4-6) and junior secondary (F1-3) English language curriculum. The DVD features the work of the students and teachers of the twelve project schools, and shows the project teachers' planning processes, classroom implementation of new literacies-infused English language teaching, and students' work and reflections. The DVD also highlights the positive learning outcomes the teachers and students experienced in integrating new literacies in their English lessons, the challenges they faced, and their suggestions for future work. Each of these cases demonstrates the potential of new literacies to enhance English language learning and teaching.
The research and development of the DVD was funded by QEF and developed by Principal Investigator, Dr Matthew Clarke, Acting PI, Ms Margaret Lo, Co-Investigators Dr Jasmine Luk and Dr Svetlana Chigaeva, and the project team, in collaboration with students and teachers in 12 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
Dr Angel Lin, Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning of the Faculty of Education, will launch the DVD. Dr Matthew Clarke and project researchers will share the key findings of the project and demonstrate the features of the DVD. A copy of the DVD will be given to registered attendees.
