HKU announces joint MOU with National University of Mongolia (English only)

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) announced today (May 22) a joint MOU with the National University of Mongolia, which has marked the first deep collaboration between universities in Hong Kong and Mongolia. The move will allow some of Mongolia's most talented students to attend HKU on scholarships, research collaborations between the two universities as well as student and staff exchanges.
Meanwhile, an Award Presentation Ceremony was held today to award two student winners of a Mongolian Essay Competition organized to raise awareness about Mongolia amongst the student community at HKU.
The winners Mr. Alvin Cheung Heng KAN (Master of Urban Planning year 2) and Mr. Harry Chun Hei AU (Bachelor of Social Sciences year 2) were awarded round trip air tickets to Mongolia donated by the Mongolian Airlines.
HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui officiated at the ceremony and the Mongolian Consul-General, Mr. Yadmaa Ariunbold was the Guest of Honour.
Mongolian culture was showcased and Mr. Yadmaa Ariunbold gave a presentation to introduce Mongolian culture, religion, economy, foreign policy and education at the ceremony.
With its rich resources and increasing interest of foreign direct investment, Mongolia is fast becoming an important emerging economy. Recently six Mongolian companies have been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In addition, direct flight connections between Hong Kong and Ulan Bataar have started for more than six months. HKU, as Asia's leading international university, has agreed to set up a collaborative agreement with universities in Mongolia and the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to offer opportunities to Mongolian students to study at HKU. This is the first deep collaboration between a university in Hong Kong and Mongolia brokered by the Mongolian Consulate-General.
