Mr Leo Goodstadt to meet the media on his new book on HK’s “New Poverty”
21 Oct 2013
Former head of HK government’s Central Policy Unit Mr Leo Goodstadt will meet the media on October 24 (Thursday) at the University of Hong Kong on his new book Poverty in the Midst of Affluence: How Hong Kong Mismanaged Its Prosperity.
In the last volume of his series on Hong Kong’s economic, social and political development, Leo Goodstadt traces how officials have created a ‘new poverty’ in Hong Kong and argues that their misguided policies are both a legacy of the colonial era and a deliberate choice by modern governments, and not the result of economic crises. The book offers a review of what went wrong with the government’s policy making and its management of both financial and social affairs. It also attempts to identify of flawed policies and defective decisions, and analyses in detail the performance of HKSAR’s first three Chief Executives from Tung Chee-hwa to Leung Chun-ying and their political teams.
