HKU Young Brain Scientist Program to hold sixth public lecture for secondary school students - “Is it a boy or a girl?”: An introduction to gender development

Gender is a major category we can’t help noticing throughout life and in all aspects of development. Despite decades of research, many questions regarding gender are still debated. This talk will present a snapshot of current knowledge on whether and how males and female differ, why they differ, gender stereotypes and their consequences. An introduction to the theories of gender development will be accompanied by citations of classic scientific findings.
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Young Brain Scientist Program is the first project in HK designed for secondary students, delivered by public lectures to increase their awareness of the potential impact from brain science research. With the success of previous lectures: Attention, The Asymmetries in Our Mind, Optical Illusions, False Beliefs, HKU Young Brain Scientist Program will deliver the sixth public lecture – Gender Development.

HKU Young Brain Scientist Program
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Young Brain Scientist Program is the first project in HK designed for secondary students to increase their awareness of the potential impact from brain science research. Six professors from the HKU Department of Psychology speak on their expertise areas in public lectures lasting from December 2013 to June 2014. Participating students will receive a certificate from HKU Young Brain Scientist Program, and selected students will be invited to join privileged brain science lab tours and workshops.
