HKU St John's College 102th Anniversary Shann Lectures 2014
"Hello Japan, Anti-Japan or Study Japan? The role and position of Hong Kong in the Sino-Japanese rivalry or friendship"
The seminar, held by the College of St John's the Evangelist, HKU, focuses on the position and role of Hong Kong in the ongoing competition between China and Japan for dominance, not only culturally and economically, but also in territorial disputes, international politics and military preparations. A group of prominent professionals, both in the academic and business sectors will share their views and opinions in the seminar.

Public Talk on Bereavement Assessment and Bereavement Care
Bereavement is an inevitable life event which can disrupt one’s life. With the upcoming 10th International Conference on Grief and Bereavement in Contemporary Society, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the University of Hong Kong is going to organize a series of public talk on bereavement assessment and care. Specifically, two renowned leaders in bereavement from United States and Australia will orientate us with warning signs of problematic grief and ways to accommodate bereavement. It is hoped to make this heartrending life event more bearable.
Public Talk 1 & 2 will be conducted in English and simultaneous translation to Cantonese will be provided.
Public Talk 3 will be conducted in Cantonese.

University Museum and Art Gallery Exhibition: “Carlos Cruz-Diez: Circumstance and Ambiguity of Colour”
An exhibition showcasing the works of contemporary master of colour, Venezuelan kinetic and op artist Carlos Cruz-Diez is held at the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) from May 24 to August 17, 2014. This is the first time Carlos’ art pieces are on view in Hong Kong.
The exhibition, titled “Carlos Cruz-Diez: Circumstance and Ambiguity of Colour”, is held in collaboration with the Cruz-Diez Foundation, Paris; China Youth Press, Beijing; ZBL & Associates and in association with Le French May, Hong Kong.
Celebrated for his attention to light and colour, Carlos’ paintings and light installations are based on his advanced theories on the perception of colour. He has been ranked among other masters of colours including Seurat (1859–1891), Cezanne (1839–1906), Albers (1888–1976), Frank-Stella (b. 1936).

University Museum and Art Gallery Exhibition "Lasting Fragrance: Chinese Ink Paintings by Chow Chian-chiu and Chow Leung Chen-ying"
The University Museum and Art Gallery is holding an exhibition of ink and colour paintings by Chow Chian-chiu (1910–2006) and Chow Leung Chen-ying (1921–2005), prominent members of the Lingnan School of painting and widely recognised as a unique couple for their lifelong devotion to art and their teaching of Chinese art to students worldwide. The Chows are widely admired for their renderings of landscapes, bird-and-flower, animals, insects, as well as their calligraphy.
