The first study in HK on ‘Sports for All: participation of people with physical disabilities’ shows over half of the respondents unsatisfied with government’s “Sports for All” policy
02 Sep 2014
The first study on equal opportunities for people with physical disabilities to engage in sports activities in Hong Kong, conducted by a student research team from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in partnership with 1st Step Association, has unveiled that only less than one-fifth of the physical disabled people interviewed were satisfied with the government’s implementation of the “Sports for All” policy, which aims to encourage the public to take part in sports and physical activities regularly. Nearly half of the interviewees were unsatisfied with the government’s effort in promoting the policy.
A press conference will be held to release the findings and make recommendations on policy and enhancement of facilities and manpower training, for promotion of sports and physical activities among the physically disabled.
