HKU to release research findings on
“Knowledge, Attitude, Practices about Mental Health at the Hong Kong Workplace”
15 Sep 2014
According to a Legislative Council document in 2013, the preliminary finding of the ‘Hong Kong Mental Health Survey 2010-2013’ estimated that about one out of seven people experienced psychiatric symptoms. The size of the total labor force in Hong Kong for mid-2014 was about 4 million. If we combine the figures together, it seems that it is common to find a member in the working force who suffers from some kind of mental health problems. As the working population is a major resource of the society, it is of paramount importance to have a good understanding of their mental health status.
As commissioned by the Joyful (Mental Health) Foundation (JMHF), the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the Faculty of Social Sciences, HKU had conducted an academic study on mental health status, mental health related knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among the working population in Hong Kong. The study explores the issues affecting the mental health status of working people so as to devise a friendly mental-health working environment for the working population.
A press conference will be held to release the research findings by Professor Samson Tse and Dr. Paul Wong of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration jointly with Ms Cecilia Chiu, the Vice-Chairperson of the JMHF. An employee in the Hong Kong workforce and a representative from the International law firm Baker & McKenzie will join the case sharing session.
