John Sham (岑建勳) & Derek Yee (爾冬陞) In Dialogue

As part of its University Artists Scheme, the Faculty of Arts is hosting a dialogue between Hong Kong film industry pioneer and University Artist 2014-2016 John Sham Kin Fun (岑建勳) and award-winning film director Derek Yee Tung Sing (爾冬陞). During the dialogue, which is moderated by Dr Mirana M Szeto of the HKU Department of Comparative Literature, Sham and Yee will discuss their careers and the state of the Hong Kong film industry. Yee’s groundbreaking film, The Lunatics, will be screened prior to the dialogue at 5 pm.

Six highly respected artists from the disciplines of Film, Music, Literature and the Visual Arts have been appointed as University Artists for 2014 - 2016. The six artists are independent filmmaker Fruit Chan; Hong Kong film industry pioneer John Sham; award-winning cellist Trey Lee; acclaimed poet Henri Cole; and the directors of the groundbreaking art and technology partnership Artstation, Glenn Davidson and Anne Hayes. The University Artists Scheme is hosted by the Faculty of Arts and is supported by Dr Alice Lam.

The forum will be in Cantonese with simultaneous interpretation in English. The pre-dialogue screening of The Lunatics will start at 5 pm in the same venue.
