HKU Faculty of Dentistry to hold “Love & Clean Teeth Day”
20 Mar 2015
The HKU Faculty of Dentistry will hold an oral health carnival in collaboration with the charity Project Concern Hong Kong tomorrow (March 21, Saturday) in Shatin, to promote oral health and hygiene among the Hong Kong public. Media representatives are invited to cover this event, which will include a dedication ceremony for a new Project Concern Hong Kong Mobile Dental Vehicle and Dental Service.
This event is the second of four “Love & Clean Teeth Days” co-organised this year by the HKU Faculty of Dentistry and Project Concern Hong Kong, as part of an Impact Project led by Dr Chun-hung Chu (Associate Professor in Family and Community Dentistry at HKU) and funded by the HKU Knowledge Exchange Fund 2014-15.
“The four oral health carnivals of our Impact Project aim to apply knowledge and skills gained at the HKU Faculty of Dentistry to help improve the local community’s oral health and knowledge, while also encouraging engagement between our students and the public,” says Dr Chu, who will supervise a team of HKU dental students to provide oral heath education and free dental check-ups for both children and adults.
In particular, the Faculty has been advising and training staff at Project Concern Hong Kong to provide preventive dental treatment for young children and to develop a dedicated territory-wide mobile dental clinic service. The oral health carnival in Shatin will include the official launch ceremony of this new Mobile Dental Vehicle and Dental Service. Officiating at the ceremony will be Mr Thomas C W Pang (Vice Chairman of the Shatin District Council), Dr Joseph Chan (Chief Dental Consultant of the HKSAR Department of Health), Dr Sigmund S M Leung (President of the Hong Kong Dental Association), Prof Thomas Flemmig (HKU Dean of Dentistry), and Mr Calvin KS Wang (Chairman, Project Concern Hong Kong).
