HKU Swire Institute of Marine Science and School of Biological Sciences host International Conference on Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation of Marine Ecosystems

Hong Kong falls within the world’s biodiversity hotspot, yet its marine ecosystems are threatened by increasing urbanisation, over harvesting, pollution and climate change. To address these threats, the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) and School of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will organise the International Conference on Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation of Marine Ecosystems (BECoME 2015) Conference from June 1-4, 2015, which has attracted over 280 delegates from 26 different countries. Delegates will discuss the latest scientific discoveries in biodiversity, ecology, and conservation of marine ecosystems worldwide, and explore ways to better conserve our marine biodiversity and fisheries resources.
Members of the press are cordially invited to the Opening Ceremony and the Keynote Lecture of the event.

Venue: Rayson Huang Theatre, Main Campus, the University of Hong Kong
Welcome remarks will be delivered by HKU President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Mathieson, Director of the Croucher Foundation Mr David Foster, and HKSAR Undersecretary for Environment Ms Christine Loh.
International keynote speakers include Prof. Daniel Pauly (University of British Columbia, Canada); Prof. Stuart Bearhop (University of Exeter, UK); Prof. Xin-Zheng Li (Institute of Oceanology, China); Prof. Jong-Seong Khim (Seoul National University, Korea); Prof. Dianna Padilla (Stony Brook University, USA); Prof. Emma Johnston (Sydney Institute of Marine Science, Australia); Prof. Brian Morton (HKU); Prof Kwang-Tsao Shao (Biodiversity Research Centre, Taiwan); Prof. Simon Thrush (University of Auckland, New Zealand).
