HKU responds to the media regarding today’s court hearing
05 Nov 2015
“An HKU spokesperson” responds to the media regarding today’s court hearing as below:
“The legal issues are being dealt with by the University’s lawyer. As legal proceedings are still in progress, the University is advised not to make any comments in this respect.
The University reiterates that the main purpose for the action is, as the Council Chairman has repeatedly said, to maintain the principle of confidentiality observed by the Council. By taking such action, the University is not seeking to challenge the media. The University is, has been, and will continue to be a place where freedom of expression, opinion and thought are respected, valued and promoted. These are characteristics our University shares with the World's leading universities. In this regard, the need to uphold the principle of confidentiality is exactly for the purpose of ensuring freedom of speech at Council meetings.”
