About the Book:
The life story of one of the most inspirational characters of modern history. His early life, the experiences that shaped his character and his approach to leadership, the controversies around protest, violence and imprisonment, his ultimate release and ascension to power. All characterised by calm analysis, self-deprecating acceptance of failings, confrontation of sensitive issues, lessons learned. 

About the Speaker:
Professor Peter Mathieson is the fifteenth President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, and assumed office in April 2014.

Since 1999, Professor Mathieson has been regular contributor to education in East Africa, especially Mbarara, Uganda where he taught undergraduate & postgraduate medicine on 10 visits since 1999. For International Society of Nephrology, Professor Mathieson has organised & participated in educational seminars in Rwanda (3 times), Uganda (3 times), Kenya (twice), Tanzania (once) and Burundi (once, being the only French-speaking member of the 4 person group). Since 2004, member of International Society of Nephrology COMGAN committee for Africa.¹

Peter Mathieson was born and educated in the United Kingdom. He attended a state grammar school in Penzance, Cornwall, becoming Head Boy in 1977. He was awarded an unconditional offer of a place to read Medicine at the London Hospital Medical College in 1978 and qualified from the University of London with First Class Honours in 1983. After junior medical posts in London, he obtained a research training fellowship from the Medical Research Council (MRC) to study at the University of Cambridge. He was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge in 1992².
