DreamCatchers MedTech Hackathon Hong Kong 2016 at HKU

DreamCatchers MedTech Hackathon 2016, co-organised by the DreamCatchers of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), is a one-week event (June 24 to 30) to come up with prototypes to solve the unmet medical needs in the world. 10 students from Stanford, 30 students from HK universities and young professionals from HKSTP work in teams to solve eight unmet medical needs such as engaging the caregivers of post discharge stroke outpatients to improve patient access and adherence to rehabilitation, preventing falls in community, especially dwelling elderly with a fall history to maintain their functional mobility, minimising infection and monitor fluid status for Peritoneal Dialysis patients in order to reduce hospital visits etc.
Participants have attended lectures on business models, prototyping skills and patents, and visited Queen Mary Hospital, Tung Wah Hospital and Grantham Hospital to observe the clinicians.
The teams will present their prototypes to judges and audience at the Final Pitch tomorrow (June 30). They will meet the media after the event and show their designs. Details are as follows:

Moreover, an opening ceremony of the event was held on June 24 (Friday) at the Postgraduate Hub of Graduate House. Officiating guests of the opening were HKU President Professor Peter Mathieson, CEO of HKSTP Mr Allen Ma, and Dr Robert Chang, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Stanford University Medical Center.
