Official launch of Young Scientist Scheme (YSS) by HKU Science Faculty
engaging outstanding science students in a research and exchange activities

To open the door of research frontiers to exceptionally talented students, starting from 2016-2017, Faculty of Science, the University of Hong Kong (HKU), has launched the Young Scientist Scheme (YSS), allowing outstanding students to grasp a taste of early research experience during their undergraduate studies in the 6901 BSc degree curriculum. The Faculty announces that 27 outstanding students have been admitted to the first cohort of YSS. These students are guaranteed with ample authentic learning opportunities of research, including summer research, overseas research and overseas exchange, etc. in their four years undergraduate studies, helping them to thoroughly understand what scientific research is so as to develop their strengths and broaden their horizons.
A media briefing will be held on November 15, 2016 (next Tuesday) at which some YSS participants will talk about their visions and plans. On top of that, an undergraduate year 4 student with local and overseas research experiences will share the benefits of early research engagement for talented students. Another student with eye-opening international exchange experiences at Yale University and the University of Cambridge will also share his invaluable exchange experience. Professor Cheung Wing-sum, Director of Undergraduate Admissions, Faculty of Science, will be there introduce the admissions requirements and details of the YSS.
