10 Jul 2017
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is committed to nurturing talents with global mindset. This year, top scorers admitted to HKU with level 5** in seven subjects in HKDSE will be honored as the President’s Scholars. They will be awarded with overseas learning opportunities and exclusive scholarships. President’s Scholars admitted to 6-year undergraduate programmes will be awarded scholarships up to HK$452,6001, and those admitted to 4-year undergraduate programmes will be awarded scholarships up to HK$368,4001.
President’s Scholars will receive a HKU tuition fee waiver as well as guaranteed study abroad opportunities with overseas learning scholarships up to HK$200,000. Students who wish to join overseas learning scheme at HKU’s top partner institutions such as Yale, Oxford or Harvard will receive HKU’s guaranteed referral.
President’s scholars will be selected as HKU Student Ambassadors. They will be representing HKU to participate in ceremonies, conferences and seminars. These occasions allow students to expand their networks as well as develop their interpersonal skills.
Top scorers who achieve level 5** in six subjects will be awarded a tuition fee waiver as well as up to HK$150,000 overseas learning scholarships. Students admitted to 6-year undergraduate programmes will be awarded scholarships up to HK$402,6001, and those admitted to 4-year undergraduate programmes will be awarded scholarships up to HK$318,4001.
Throughout their undergraduate study, students can use the scholarships for exchange and overseas summer learning programmes.
By 2022, HKU aims that 100% of our students will have the opportunity and a rich choice to have learning experience outside Hong Kong, at least once overseas and once in the Mainland. The University also provides scholarships to support their overseas exchange experience.
HKU offers up to HK$130 million bursaries and scholarships to all eligible students under over 700 scholarships and bursaries programmes. These aim to build students’ interdisciplinary knowledge base, advocate experiential learning, and free needy students from financial constraints during their studies at HKU. An example is the “First-in-the-Family Education Fund” which supports students who are the first generation in their families to attend university with HK$15,000 to participate in outside-classroom learning activities.
