HKU partners with Cyberport to set up
the HKU x Cyberport Digital Tech Entrepreneurship Platform
for developing a new digital tech entrepreneurship ecosystem
04 Aug 2017
To foster talents and co-developing an innovative FinTech ecosystem, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport) will be held tomorrow (8 August 2017) to setup the “HKU x Cyberport Digital Tech Entrepreneurship Platform” (Platform).
The Platform is the first-of-its-kind collaboration between HKU and Cyberport aiming to form a closer partnership between the two parties to build a digital tech entrepreneurship platform. By leveraging the unique capabilities of both HKU and Cyberport, a unique digital tech entrepreneurship ecosystem for Hong Kong in the aspects of human capital, innovation and technologies, entrepreneurship, as well as legal and business expertise will be developed.
The “HKU x Cyberport FinTech Nucleus” will also be launched tomorrow. Through this FinTech Nucleus, HKU will deploy its very own unique cybersecurity technology “SHIELD” at Cyberport and offer 50 units of SHIELD for a one-year free trial to the FinTech start-ups and companies in the community. SHIELD is developed by one of the research labs at HKU – CISC (Center for Information Security and Cryptography). The CISC team led by Dr Chow Kam-pui, Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, HKU, will demonstrate how the system works in a media tour held after the MoU signing ceremony.
In addition to SHIELD, HKU will showcase a powerful portfolio optimization software “PORTimizer®” and a MPF mobile app “MPF Optimal Allocation (MPF OpAl)” developed by Dr Philip Yu Leung-ho of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, Faculty of Science, at the FinTech Nucleus.
