Gala Premiere: “My Little Story with Mom” and
End-of-Life Care Public Seminar
31 Oct 2017
What would you do if you only have 3 months left to live? Go for a trip? Spend time with your family? Or pretend that nothing special has happened? End-of-life patients and family members sometimes forget the importance of communication and mutual respect, and become self-oriented when facing decision on end-of-life care. Eventually, the precious moment of being together is wasted.
Initiated and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club End-of-Life Community Care Project (JCECC), brings together two universities, five NGOs and the public and private healthcare sectors in a collaboration. The project is aimed at improving the quality of end-of-life care in the community and raising public awareness of end-of-life care through various public education activities. The Project will hold the Gala Premiere of “My Little Story with Mom” and End-of-Life Care Public Seminar on November 1, 2017 at Grand Hall, Lee Shau Kee Lecture Centre, Centennial Campus, HKU. The event is aimed at emphasizing the importance of communication and choice of care to end-of-life patients through the mini-movie. The public seminar to be held after the premiere will extend the discussion on community support for end-of-life patients.
Brief Introduction of “My Little Story with Mom”
To an outsider, the choice of end-of-life care may seem to be a “little story with mom”. However, it is not the case for the daughter (casted by Miss Catherine Chau) and her mom (casted by Ms. Susan Shaw) in the mini-movie, as it affects their relationship and even their quality of life. How do mutual respect and effective communication allow them to have a peaceful and precious moment at the last journey of life?

About the Jockey Club End-of-Life Community Care Project
Hong Kong is facing a rapidly ageing population, and the number of elderly people suffering from terminal illnesses has also escalated correspondingly. In view of the growing demand for end-of-life care services in the community, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust approved funding of HK$131 million to launch the Jockey Club End-of-Life Community Care (JCECC) project in 2015. The project is a three-year initiative aimed at improving the quality of end-of-life care and enhancing the capacity of service providers, as well as raising public awareness.
JCECC is a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional and cross-sectoral collaboration to help enhance end-of-life care in Hong Kong with special emphasis on the interface between social and medical systems. Five service models are being developed and piloted in the community to provide holistic support to elderly people suffered from terminal illness. The goal is to enable the city’s older people to have informed choices of care and enjoy an improved quality of life. Please visit http://www.JCECC.hk/.
