28 Feb 2018
The Acting President of the University of Hong Kong Professor Paul Tam responds to the media on the Financial Secretary’s Budget for 2018-19:
"The University of Hong Kong is delighted to see the launching of an eighth round of Matching Grant Scheme, and the government’s plan to increase medical manpower particularly more publicly-funded training places for doctors, dentists and nurses.
We are encouraged by the government’s continuous commitments to innovation and development, providing additional funding for research and development and incentives to groom and recruit talents including the establishment of a postdoctoral Hub, more resources to help start-ups, and development plans at the Greater Bay Area and Lok Ma Chau Loop.
HKU reiterates its commitment to being Asia’s Global University and realising the strategic development goal of Internationalisation, Innovation and Interdisciplinarity, converging on Impact.
“We are supportive and encouraged by the initiatives, which we are well-prepared for to make achievements. We have established the i-Dendron, an incubator for nurturing an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit on campus, and introduced new funding schemes in translational research and technology platform, just to name a few,” said Professor Tam.
