HKU continues to take in the majority of HKDSE top scorers with diverse interests and wide range of academic pursuits

HKU persistently maintains its standard of excellence in admissions by admitting the first “super top scorer” who achieved 5** in 9 subjects (including an extended module in math), as well as gaining the highest number of top scorers.
Among the 83 students who have obtained 5** in 5 or more HKDSE subjects, over half have gained admission to HKU, with subject interests ranging from medicine and law to business and engineering. The students are admitted to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Business Administration (Law) and Bachelor of Laws (double degree) etc.

“Super top scorer” admitted to HKU Faculty of Medicine
The average score of candidates (best six subjects) admitted to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) reaches 39. The average score of the top 30 candidates is as high as 41.27. A total of 14 students achieved the excellent results of getting 5** in 6 or more subjects, including two top scorers.
Dentistry ranked first globally for 3 consecutive years and widely popular among candidates
This year, candidates applying for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme continue to perform brilliantly, with an increase in both application numbers and average admission scores. Apart from admitting a top scorer with 5** in 7 or more subjects, the programme also admitted 3 students with 5** in 5 or more subjects, and two elite sports schloars with outstanding academic results.
99% candidates with an average score of 5* applying for law-related programmes gained admission to HKU
HKU admitted 84 out of 85 candidates (99%) in Hong Kong with average score of 5* who have applied to study law-related programmes, including ten candidates who obtained 5** in 5 subjects.
Highest average admission scores amongst all universities
HKDSE candidates admitted to HKU have the highest average scores amongst all universities in Hong Kong in the four core subjects of Chinese, English, Liberal Studies and Mathematics, and under different admission criteria including best five subjects, best six subjects, four core subjects plus two elective subjects.
19 outstanding athletes admitted to a wide range of programmes
HKU has admitted 19 outstanding athletes via the HKU Sports Scholarship Scheme this year who are passionate about various sports including track and field, orienteering, taekwondo etc. Two athletes with outstanding performance in fencing and volleyball respectively gained admission to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Other athletes who performed well academically are admitted to programmes like Bachelor of Business Administration (Law) and Bachelor of Laws (double degree), Bachelor of Social Sciences (Government and Laws) and Bachelor of Laws (double degree), and Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science.
HKU admitted 84 local non-Chinese speaking students this year, the highest among all the universities. Four students with special education needs (SEN) are admitted to the University. The University’s Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDERS) will provide the students with support and assistance where needed.
An HKU spokesperson is pleased with the results of this year’s admission and said: “Students admitted to HKU this year not only have excellent grades, but possess extensive academic interests, and many of them have chosen from a wide range of academic disciplines. The students also include many elite athletes, HKU has always supported athletes' parallel development in sports and knowledge pursuit, and the inspirational story of the athlete who is admitted to dentistry is especially moving. I wish all students admitted to HKU a happy and fruitful university life.”
