Fifteen academics of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) have been named by Clarivate Analytics in the list of “Highly Cited Researchers 2018” among the world’s top researchers. Their works have been highly cited by fellow academics and are hence making a significant impact in ongoing research in their respective fields of study.

Highly Cited Researchers are selected for their exceptional research performance, determined by production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science.

Over 6,000 researchers are named Highly Cited Researchers in 2018: some 4,000 in specific fields and about 2,000 for cross-field performance. This is the first year that researchers with cross-field impact are identified.

HKU Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Andy Hor is delighted to have so many HKU academics being named and are making a significant impact in academia. He said: “We appreciate that HKU has the highest number of highly cited researchers among universities in Hong Kong. We benchmark with the best in the world, and recognise that we can and will do only better. The emerging emphasis on R&D and improving funding situations in Hong Kong is strong encouragement. Top talents are key to the future of Hong Kong and these scholars are examples of such. They have our deep appreciation and respect, and hence well deserving congratulations!”
