The Faculty of Education, in support of the University’s drive to strengthen knowledge exchange, one of the three strategic themes of the University’s Strategic Development, takes the initiative in knowledge sharing with the public by organising a series of education seminars for teachers and parents. The past seminars on Mathematics, English, Liberal Studies, Information Technology, studying abroad, use of voice, creativity, private tutoring, parent-school partnership, early childhood education, social media and bilingual proficiency, etc. held since 2010 were well received by teachers and parents.
Our Faculty is going to organise the 15th seminar on “Connect and Walk with the Digital Generation” in February 2019. In the seminar, Dr Allen Yuen, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong; Dr Alex Chan, Director of Positive Psychology Laboratory and the Associate Director of Positive Technology and Virtual Reality Laboratory, Hong Kong Shue Yan University; and Dr Patrick Lam, former Associate Director of Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, will discuss and share with participants on how to explore the internet with the digital generation.
Digital technology has brought about many changes in multiple aspects in our everyday life. It has shaped and re-shaped new scenarios and presented challenges for the younger generation. Are there more pros than cons of using digital products in the younger generation? How to keep children from the overuse of electronic devices? To answer these questions, this seminar will unpack the implications of growing up in an “always on” digital environment, and explore how to communicate, interact, and walk with the digital generation in an ever-changing world.
