Asia Global Institute welcomes 2019 AsiaGlobal Fellows
14 Aug 2019
The Asia Global Institute (AGI) welcomes 14 outstanding individuals as this year’s AsiaGlobal Fellows. All Fellows are well-accomplished and have demonstrated strong leadership potential.
Launched in 2017, the AsiaGlobal Fellows Program is a 13-week residential interdisciplinary leadership development initiative for mid-career professionals with a strong interest and track record in public policy. It brings together up-and-coming influencers in politics, policy making, business and civil society for mutual learning and knowledge exchange. The program also enables the Fellows to address policy issues through in-depth research, informed debates and collaboration. This year’s program will run from August 19 to November 15.
The goals of the AsiaGlobal Fellows Program are to nurture future leaders with deep understanding of global issues from Asian perspectives, develop influencers who contribute to shaping a prosperous and sustainable future for all, and to continuously expand our network of promising future leaders for a further globalized world through intensive learning and interaction.
The 2019 cohort includes inspiring leaders such as Khatia Dekanoidze, the first female chief of Ukraine’s National Police and former education minister of Georgia; Ananth Krishnan, former China bureau chief of India’s largest media group; Ha Fung Ng, Cilla, an HKU alumnus working on international drug control at the United Nations office in Vienna; and Anna Semenova, Head of Learning and Development at Gazprom Neft, Russia.
The AsiaGlobal Fellows Program is directed and administered by the Asia Global Institute, a multidisciplinary research institute at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). The program is carried out under the overall supervision of Zhiwu Chen, Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics and director of AGI at HKU. The program director is K C Kwok, honorary senior research fellow at the Faculty of Business and Economics at HKU, and formerly the government economist of the Hong Kong SAR government.
