Social innovation calls for an exploration of alternative pathways to solving complex challenges, such as climate change, poverty, social inclusion, etc. based upon human ingenuity and community power for the attainment of higher quality of life and a sustainable society as its ultimate goal.
To foster a culture of social innovation in Hong Kong, the Social and Entrepreneurship and Civic Action Lab of the Centre for Civil Society and Governance (SECAL-CCSG) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is launching the “Social Innovations for Sustainable Communities” (SISC) programme with support from the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC). The three-year programme aims to enhance the ecosystem for social entrepreneurship in Hong Kong with a view to preparing the community to tackle local sustainability challenges; and crowdsourcing ideas and actions through incubating a corps of intergenerational “sustainability catalysers”.
The SISC programme will be formally launched at a ceremony on 9 November 2019 (Saturday), in which the results of a territorial-wide survey on sustainability visions for Hong Kong 2030-2050 and community awareness on social entrepreneurship will be released. This will be followed by a sharing session with social innovation advocates, local business leaders and social entrepreneurs on major issues of social innovation and sustainable community.
