HKU celebrates the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Pokfield Road Campus
26 Jan 2021
The Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Pokfield Road Campus took place today (January 26) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), marking the beginning of a new chapter for HKU and the Pokfield Road community as the project enters into the construction phase.
The Lindsay Ride Sports Centre, staff quarters at Pokfield Road and the Flora Ho Sports Centre will be redeveloped and transformed into a new landmark campus hub in three phases. The Pokfield Campus will provide a state-of-the-art academic complex as the new home for the HKU Business School, upgraded and contemporary sports facilities, a premium residential complex and a university guest house, as well as a teaching and learning hub and conference centre.
The Pokfield Campus will bring the University to forge ahead as the 21st Century’s tertiary institution in Hong Kong with international space norms for teaching, research and other academic activities. It will also be a green, smart and healthy campus, creating an enhanced environment for the community with better connectivity.
As the HKU Business School aspires to become a premier business school in Asia with significant global influence, its campus at the Main Campus will be relocated to this new, modern home to provide sufficient teaching, learning, research and communal space to foster interaction and incubation of ideas with scholars and business practitioners for a global business school that emphasizes collaboration and outreach.
At the ceremony, Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU said, "The University is proceeding with many strategic developments over the next five years to support innovation and entrepreneurship, and to enhance collaborations and cross-disciplinary pursuits. The extension of our campus space and upgrading of facilities to 21st century norm is a necessary aspect to support our vision and growth into the future."
Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 development of the Pokfield Campus are expected to be ready and functional by Q1 2023, Q1 2024 and Q3 2025 respectively.
