The University of Hong Kong (HKU) welcomes the Policy Address in proposing a number of visionary and creative policies to support scientific research and development. It is encouraging to see the provision in land resources, talents, and financial policies, which will help attract more world-class talents and outstanding research postgraduate students to Hong Kong.
The University is grateful to the Government for setting aside land in Pokfulam so that Hong Kong can establish a national-level innovation platform and develop research in deep technology.
We will leverage on our research capabilities to actively participate in the InnoLife Healthtech Hub in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP) in the Loop district.
HKU President Professor Xiang Zhang said, "The Chief Executive has led the Government to demonstrate its vision and determination to develop innovation and technology in Hong Kong. It is encouraging to see the Government acknowledging the efforts and achievements of the University in scientific research. The University is confident and will spare no effort to join hands with the Government and various sectors to further develop basic research and make contributions to innovation and technology.”
The University is at the forefront of innovation and has achieved excellent results in research. In the future, under the support of the Chief Executive and the HKSAR Government, we will continue to leverage our Internationalization to attract more talents from all over the world, strengthen collaborations with local and global top universities and scientific research institutions, and enhance HKU’s international reputation.
The University has also noticed the recommendations in the Policy Address on nurturing talents, including the suggestion that the University Grants Committee encourage local university students to grasp opportunities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), and for students from Hong Kong universities in Mainland campuses to participate in the “Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG)” programme. These proposals will facilitate the flow of talents in the GBA, increase student internship and development opportunities, and encourage more talents from various places to find employment in Hong Kong.
