Researchers at the Department of Microbiology of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) succeeded in isolating the variant. This is the first known research team in Asia that has succeeded in isolating the Omicron variant.

Leaders of the research team Chair of Infectious Diseases Professor Kwok-yung Yuen, Professor Honglin Chen and Head of the Department of Microbiology Dr. Kelvin To  will answer questions from the media in a Zoom meeting this afternoon.
