HKU provides online learning support for secondary school students to have a fulfilling summer break
06 Mar 2022
With the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, many HKDSE students from Secondary 4 to 6 are severely affected with their studies. In order to help students who require extra academic support, Student Ambassadors from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will provide a series of online sessions for learning support in April including:
1. [Study lounge with your seniors]: It is inevitable that many HKDSE candidates are distressed with their studies especially when their examination dates are not yet confirmed. HKU Student Ambassadors hope to provide support for their juniors from their alma maters and ease their anxiety by setting up communication groups (WhatsApp or Signal) for their juniors in Form 6 to share their experience with how they coped with their exams under the pandemic.
2. [Enhance your Core Online]: Many Secondary 4 and 5 students have experienced challenges with their learning as they need to study at home under the pandemic. In April, Student Ambassadors and students from Faculty of Education will set up “Enhance your Core Online” for Secondary 4 and 5 HKDSE students to consolidate their knowledge in the three main core subjects – Chinese, English, and Mathematics – and help them with their school assignments. This activity is free of charge, please visit https://admissions.hku.hk/events/cheer-hkdse-students for registration details.
At the same time, as local secondary schools will start their summer break earlier this year in March or April, to encourage secondary school students to fight the pandemic by staying at home, HKU Taster has launched a two-week online interactive programme, including “Fun with HKU Taster” that is available to all secondary school students from April 6th to 8th. Lecturers will go through personality analysis, photography, stretching and other topics to help students cultivate their interests and widen their horizons while at home. Another programme, “Week of Taster”, will be hosted from April 11th to 15th to allow Secondary 2 to 4 students to “attend university at home”. Students would take a series of enlightening lectures from professors under the ten faculties at HKU, allowing them to fully maximize their early summer break.
