The University of Hong Kong’s 17 research teams have achieved outstanding results winning 19 prizes at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. Among them, the “Artificial Intelligence MGF Network for Anomalies Detection” technology, developed by Dr. Wilton Fok’s research team from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, was the winner of two special grand prizes Invention & Innovation CAI Award (China Delegation) and Prize of the Delegation of Malaysia, in addition to a gold medal at the event.
Their technology utilises Glance and Focus AI Abnormal Detection to analyse human posture and movements in real-time video, detecting abnormal situations such as recent incidents of falls, fainting, drowning, and violence such as fighting and abuse. It can provide timely alerts for rescue efforts and help prevent accidents. The team has already established partnerships with relevant organisations for applications of the new technology.
Dr. Fok and his research team will showcase how the award-winning technology can be applied in daily life in a press briefing tomorrow (May 10, Wednesday).
