The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold the HKU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Day: DreamOn 2023 on June 5 (Monday) and announce a series of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) initiatives, including the official debut of Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (TEC) and launch of HKU Entrepreneurship Engine Fund (EEF).
The event will feature exhibition booths from 40 HKU start-ups, along with three panel discussions, where HKU entrepreneurs will share their experiences. Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR government, will attend the opening ceremony.
Professor Anderson Shum, Associate Vice-President (Research and Innovation); and Mr Paul Wang, Director of Techno-Entrepreneurship Core, will meet with the media to introduce new measures implemented to support start-ups. Two HKU start-up companies MetTactis and Manifold Tech will showcase their achievements in translating scientific research results into real-world applications.
MetTactics provides the world's first microfluidic chip capable of capturing transferable cancer cells. These cells bring new ideas, research models, and testing for academic researchers, pharmaceutical scientists, and clinical doctors to combat cancer metastasis. MetTactics aims to launch clinical trials by the end of 2025. By analyzing the genetic characteristics of captured cancer cells from patients, MetTactics predicts drug responses, enabling clinical doctors to develop the best treatment strategy quickly and effectively for cancer patients.
Manifold Tech is a high-tech 3D scanning, modelling, robotics, and algorithm company that uses world-leading LiDAR technology to scan documents directly into computers with high accuracy and low cost. Manifold Tech has participated in several 3D scanning and modelling projects in Hong Kong, including Tai Pak Floating Restaurant and the Hong Kong Museum of History.
