HKU Chi Wah Learning Commons Celebrates 10th Anniversary
12 Jun 2023
Chi Wah Learning Commons (CWLC), a leading learning centre in Hong Kong, commemorated its 10th anniversary by hosting a Hybrid Teaching and Learning Conference. The full-day event featured morning and afternoon sessions, bringing together academics, IT representatives, and education professionals to share insights and experiences on various topics related to teaching, learning, and current academic trends. With 124 in-person attendees and 54 online participants via live streaming, the event gathered representatives from all eight universities and other institutions.
The conference began with an opening address by Professor Ian Holliday, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) at the University of Hong Kong. Professor Holliday introduced Dr LAM Ko Yin Colin, Vice Chairman of Henderson Land Development Co Ltd. and Chairman of the Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) Co. Ltd., the generous donor who made Chi Wah Learning Commons possible. Professor Ian expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr Lam for his unwavering commitment to the University and his remarkable generosity. Following the speech, officiating guests led a toasting and roasted pig cutting ceremony to celebrate Chi Wah Learning Commons' 10th anniversary.
Professor Cheng Kai-ming, Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Education, HKU, presented the keynote speech on "Learning Commons." This was followed by two representatives of Information Technology Services, who led sharing sessions on MS Teams Moodle Integration Block and the Metaverse of HKU in the afternoon session. The conference concluded with a presentation by Microsoft, during which numerous guests raised questions in the Q & A session.
The event was an overwhelming success, providing participants with a platform to exchange ideas and experiences while celebrating the 10th anniversary of Chi Wah Learning Commons.
Ms. Flora Ng, Chief Information Officer and University Librarian, said: "Without the vision and generous donation from both the University of Hong Kong and the donor, Dr Colin Lam of Chi Wah Foundation, Chi Wah Learning Commons (CWLC) would not be possible. We are thrilled to have marked the 10th anniversary of Chi Wah Learning Commons with this Hybrid Teaching and Learning Conference. The event was a tremendous success, uniting academics, IT representatives, and education professionals to share their knowledge and experiences. We take pride in our role in supporting teaching and learning at the University of Hong Kong and look forward to continuing to innovate and deliver world-class services to our community."
Featuring state-of-the-art facilities and a wide array of digital resources, Chi Wah Learning Commons plays a crucial role in supporting the University of Hong Kong's mission to provide world-class education to its students and staff.
