Miscarriage is a reproductive health condition which induce psychological impacts on women. In order to gain a better understanding of the role of mental health literacy and the help seeking behaviour, an online study on Mental Health Literacy and Help-Seeking for Women with Reproductive Health Issues in Hong Kong has been launched from July to September 2023.
Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, a pilot project “Jockey Club Perinatal Bereavement Care” has been initiated. The project aims to provide holistic psychological and social support to bereaved parents with pregnancy loss.
An online survey was conducted by Professor Celia Hoi Yan Chan, Professor of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to present Mental Health Literacy and Help Seeking for Women with Reproductive Health Issues in Hong Kong. Data from 356 respondents, sampled through community networks and social media platforms, was analysed. Impacts of reproductive health issues on emotional distress for women, help seeking for those with emotional disturbances and the impact of mental health literacy would be shared.
Professor Chan and her research team will present the survey findings at a media briefing tomorrow (October 6, Friday).
A public campaign named “Parents Too – Pregnancy Loss Week” Awareness Campaign will be held in October to cultivate an empathetic and passionate community for people experiencing pregnancy loss. Details will be announced at the media briefing.
