The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has launched a student-staff partnership, Wellness@HKU, to promote mental health and wellbeing on campus.
Wellness@HKU will serve as a communication platform bridging relevant student groups, university departments and other stakeholders to facilitate information and resources sharing, working towards the shared goal to promote a healthy campus culture and actively supporting students in need.
On October 10 the World Mental Health Day, Wellness@HKU joined hands with the Centre for Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE) and University Health Service (UHS), together with the Student as Partners (SaP) initiative at HKU, organised a "Student Wellness Fair" on campus. Student-staff collaborative activities included professional interviews, student (athlete, peer supporter) sharing, comfort dog, arts and other wellness activities. Echoing this year's theme "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right" of the World Mental Health Day, Professor Richard Wong, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of HKU called upon all faculty, staff, and students to collaborate in promoting mental health at HKU.
“Mental health is at the core of university life and encompasses various aspects of daily activities, including teaching and learning, peer relationships, and holistic development. HKU boasts many devoted faculty and staff members who tirelessly work to enhance students' mental health and well-being. Simultaneously, the collaboration with enthusiastic HKU students in supporting everyone's health is what truly distinguishes HKU,” said Professor Richard Wong.
Wellness@HKU is planning a series of campus health co-creation work, including a help-seeking resources tool and seminars. The details will be announced in the student-run Instagram page @wellness.hku.
