28 Apr 2024
The 27th Recognition Ceremony organised by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) was held on April 27 (Saturday) in Rayson Huang Theatre at HKU, with around 180 HKU staff, students and family members celebrating the triumphs together.
Professor Ian Holliday, HKU Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), officiated at the Ceremony and extended his heartfelt congratulations to student awardees for their distinguished achievements and contributions to the HKU Community and beyond.
“The student awardees here today strive for excellence in whole person development. They demonstrate their non-academic talent, leadership, and commitment to community services through personal pursuits, competitions and contributions from local to international levels. Their outstanding achievements will build a solid foundation for challenges ahead, and empower them to be future leaders and innovators of Hong Kong and beyond,” said Professor Holliday.
The Ceremony aims to honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements and exemplary attitude of HKU’s finest students from different backgrounds and to inspire the university community to learn from their dedication.
This year, four types of awards have been presented to 130 students who have excelled exceptionally in co-curricular achievements and endeavours as well as for those who have made outstanding contributions to the University and the community. Award categories range from (1) Achievement Award for Co-curricular Excellence; (2) Distinguished Service to the Community; (3) Outstanding Ideas for Publicity Campaign; and (4) CEDARS Service Awards.
“Achievement Award for Co-curricular Excellence is a new award category this year. I’m very proud of our students, who have made remarkable non-academic achievements, for example, in arts, music, sports and entrepreneurship etc. Our students have showcased their talents, passion and hard work to achieve their goals,” said Professor Samson Tse, Dean of Student Affairs.
