On the same occasion, Professor Shiu-Kum Lam, Head of Department of Medicine will make a statement regarding the Department of Medicine's position on the forthcoming University Grant Council's “short-sighted” proposal to reduce the intake of medical students.

The University of Hong Kong's Department of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital will report on ten research discoveries which have important bearings on the health of the community of Hong Kong. These discoveries are part of the 100 studies presented at the annual Departmental Research Conference to be held on January 13-14, 2001.
