Launching Ceremony of the Work Shadowing Scheme
13 Mar 2001
Dear Friends from the Media,
Re : Launching Ceremony of the Work Shadowing Scheme
Professor Ian Davies, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, Mr Ean Kuok, Chairman of South China Morning Post Holdings Ltd. and Mr. John Wan, Governor of Rotary International District 3450, cordially invite you to the Launching Ceremony of the Work Shadowing Scheme jointly organised by the three organisations. It will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at 6:00 p.m. in the Rayson Huang Theatre of the University. Mr. Moses Cheng, Chairman of the Board of Education, will be officiating at the ceremony.
The Work Shadowing Scheme is an innovative approach in helping students develop a better understanding of the occupations in which they are interested. The purpose of the exercise is to expose students to as many occupations as possible. Students will be paired up with Rotarians and will follow them around in their places of work for a period of time. They will observe and analyse what they see in a structured manner, discuss their perception with the work guide and write an account of their experience at the end of the shadowing period.
The students' written work will be published in the South China Morning Post, Careers Post and SCMP.com on a regular basis for the benefit of other young people.
At the ceremony, work shadows and work guides who have already tried out the idea will report their experience to the audience. Prospective employers as well as people interested in the career development of our younger generation might attend the ceremony and give their views on the issue. The Steering Committee believes that members of the public might like to know how the scheme would help students plan their future careers. You are therefore most welcome to cover the event and report it in your press/TV station.
