More than one hundred students from various departments will be recognised for their excellence in their chosen fields of sports, architectural designs, business plans and IT related activities, drama, speech and debating contests, community services, etc. Certificates of commendation will be presented to the winning students at the ceremony, who have won 13 international awards, 6 national awards and 80 local awards during the period April 2000 to March 2001.
HKU students stood out in several categories. The HKU team has won the Overall Championship in the 21st Annual Inter-Varsity Games against The Chinese University of Hong Kong for the second consecutive year. HKU's men's and ladies teams have also taken the second place in both Hong Kong Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association Competitions (HKPSCAA) for 2000-2001. In addition, students in Department of Architecture received many international design awards last year.
A student team from Law Faculty performed exceptionally well at the Jessup International Law Moot Competition held in April 2000 in Washington DC. The HKU team defeated City University in the regional rounds held in Hong Kong then advanced to the international rounds in the United States, where they ranked 4th out of 67 teams in the overall preliminary rankings, having defeated leading law schools from Canada and the USA. Out of some 250 students who participated in the competition, a HKU team member was awarded the 4th Best Oralist in the international rounds
Professor Ian Davies, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong and Dr E John Powell, Dean of Students Affairs, will deliver addresses and present the certificates at the ceremony to be held at the Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre Theatre, 3/F, Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre at 5:00pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2001. HKU to hold presentation ceremony for students winning external competitions

HKU students who have excelled in competitions over the last year are to be rewarded for their efforts at a ceremony in their honour on Wednesday, April 18, 2001.
