The event will commence at 9.00 a.m. with a Scientific Symposium highlighting dental research activities involving the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, which is the only Dental School in Hong Kong, and five leading stomatological institutions in Mainland China. The Deans and senior academics of these five Schools of Stomatology, of Peking University, Shanghai Second Medical University, Sichuan University, Fourth Military Medical University of X'ian and Wuhan University respectively, have been invited to participate in the Symposium which will take place at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, 34 Hospital Road, Sai Ying Pun. Professor C.F. Lee, HKU's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), will give the Opening Address on ‘Collaborative Research with China: Reaffirming the Strengths'.
The Symposium will be followed by a Celebration Ceremony to be held at 6.00 p.m. at the Rayson Huang Theatre, University Main Campus. At the Ceremony, the Deans of the five Mainland Schools will make short presentations of their institutions and collaboration opportunities. The five-year Agreements of Co-operation which each school has signed with the HKU Faculty of Dentistry will then be unveiled by Professor W.I.R. Davies the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, together with Professor F.C. Smales, Dean of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry.

As part of the celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Founding of The University of Hong Kong, an event entitled “Dental Sciences for Greater China” organized by the University's Faculty of Dentistry will be held on Friday, May 4th 2001 - an auspicious and memorable day which also marks the anniversary of the May Fourth Movement in China of 1919.
