A Forum on “Taiwan: New Administration After One Year”

The Centre of Asia Studies of the University of Hong Kong and the Kwang Hwa Information & Culture Centre is to organise a forum on Taiwan: New Administration After One Year on Friday, May 25, 2001. The forum will discuss the challenges that the new government of Taiwan has faced over the past year. Seven academics from Taiwan will deliver talks on the economic and political developments in Taiwan, the impact of cross-strait and economic relations after China entry to the WTO as well as the influence of the United States in the development of cross-strait relations. Academics from Hong Kong will also join the floor discussion. The forum will be conducted in Putonghua with English interpretation.

The forum will be in three sessions. The talks of the first session will be an evaluation of Taiwan's new government by Professor ChuYun-han from National Taiwan University and Professor Lin Chia-lung from National Chung Cheng University. The talks of the second session will focus on the development of cross-strait economic relations delivered by Professor Guo Jiann-jong from Tamkang University and Professor Wu Chih-chung from Soochow University. The third session will be talks on the US policies on Asia Pacific region and its influence on the cross-strait relationship delivered by Professor Lin Cheng-yi from Academia Sinica, Professor Andrew Nien-dzu Yang from Chinese Council of Advanced Policy Studies and Mr Wang Shing-ching, Publisher of New Journalist Weekly.
