Urban transport is, by definition, local. How then can it be affected by globalisation? In his talk, Professor Ridley will argue that, although urban transport markets are unique to their location, the competition between “world cities”, the environmental concerns, increasing communication between professionals, and the growth of benchmarking will lead to the development of similar policies around the world.
Tony Ridley is the Emeritus Professor of Transport Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College and has been the Director of the University of London Centre for Transport Studies (ULCTS). In 1988 he was the first recipient of the Highways Award of the Institution of Highways and Transportation and in 2000 the first recipient of the Herbert Chow Award of the Worshipful Company of Carmen.
The lecture will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, November 15, at the Rayson Huang Theatre, the University of Hong Kong. Members of the media and interested party are cordially invited to attend.
