The main themes covered in the Forum include: translation teaching; interpreting research; translation practice and its application; cultural issues in translation; literary translation; legal translation; and translation criticism.
Professor Nigel Reeves, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of German, Aston University, UK and Professor Liu Ching-chih, President of the Hong Kong Translation Society, will give the keynote speeches. The plenary speakers include Professors Adolfo Gentile (from Australia), Martin Forstner (Germany), Hannelore Lee-Jahnke (Switzerland) and Luo Xuanmin (PRC).
Professor W.I.R. Davis, Vice-Chancellor, the University of Hong Kong, and Professor Edward Chen Kwan-yiu, President, Lingnan University, will give the Opening Speeches on 6 and 8 December, respectively. The President of the Hong Kong Translation Society will officiate at the opening and closing sessions.
Attending the Forum are some 100 participants from over a dozen countries in Europe, Asia and America. There will be a team of delegates from the PRC, in addition to local participants from various tertiary institutions. The Forum will be the largest of its kind ever held here, and promises to create a strong impact on the study and teaching of translation in Hong Kong.

Third Asian Translators' Forum

Scheduled to be held on 6-7 December at the University of Hong Kong and on 8 December at Lingnan University, the Asian Translators’ Forum is held once every three years under the auspices of the International Federation of Translators [FIT]. Its main objectives are to build a basis for inter-regional cooperation and to enable researchers to present their most recent findings. During the three days there will be lectures by keynote speakers, presentations by individual scholars, and a book exhibition involving the Chinese University Press, and Hubei Educational Press, together with a special presentation on the comics of top-notch local cartoonist Cai Zhizhong in a dozen languages.
