More than one hundred students from various departments will be recognised for their excellence in their chosen fields of sports, architectural designs, business plans and IT related activities, drama, speech and debating contests, community services, etc. Certificates of commendation will be presented to the winning students at the ceremony, who have won 12 international awards, 21 regional awards and 123 local awards during the period March 2001 to March 2002.
HKU students stood out in several categories. The HKU team has won the Overall Championship in the 22nd Annual Inter-Varsity Games for the third consecutive year. HKU's men's and ladies teams have taken the second place and the champion respectively in Hong Kong Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association Competitions (HKPSCAA). In addition, students in Department of Architecture received many international design awards last year.
A student team from School of Business performed exceptionally well at the International Business Challenge 2001 held in October 2001 in Texas, USA. They succeeded in beating elite representatives from 17 top-notch universities worldwide, including the University of California at Berkeley and Purdue University, in this demanding event.
Professor Ian Davies, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong and Dr E John Powell, Dean of Students Affairs, will deliver addresses and present the certificates at the ceremony to be held at the Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre Theatre, 3/F, Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre at 5:00pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2002. HKU students who have excelled in competitions over the last year are to be rewarded for their efforts at a ceremony in their honour on Tuesday, April 9, 2002.
