In this lecture, Professor Shleifer will address the administration of justice in different countries, the efficiency of such administration, and the choice between regulators and judges in enforcing laws. Some of the issues to be discussed include legal history, efficiency of judicial system around the world and the rise of the regulatory state.
Professor Shleifer is currently Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He is the 1999 recipient of the John Bates Clark Medal, a prestigious award presented by the American Economic Association every two years to an outstanding economist under the age of 40. The Clark Medal citation singles out his contributions to three fields: corporate finance, financial markets and transition economics. His contributions in these areas have shaped the basic paradigms and triggered a large volume of follow-up research. Professor Shleifer is acknowledged by the profession as one of the most innovative minds working on economic issues.

Professor of Economics at Harvard University to deliver public lecture at HKU

Professor Andrei Shleifer of the Department of Economics at Harvard University will deliver a Distinguished Public Lecture organised by the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The lecture, entitled The Practice of Justice, will be held at 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 14, at Rayson Huang Theatre, HKU.
