To enhance the professional standard of dentists practising in the Macau Special Administrative Region, the Macau Government has taken the initiative to appoint the internationally recognized Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong as the official provider of Postgraduate and Continuing Dental Education to Macau, in association with the Macau Polytechnic Institute as venue provider.
As the sole provider of professional dental education in Hong Kong, the HKU Faculty of Dentistry has been offering clinical postgraduate degree courses at diploma, master and advanced diploma levels to dental graduates and practitioners; as well as continuing education courses in modular form. In this new inter-city venture, teachers from the HKU Faculty will travel to Macau and give lectures in Chinese to Macau practitioners. Clinical simulation workshops will be conducted at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital in Hong Kong for these practitioners sponsored by the Macau Government.
At the Inauguration Ceremony to be held in the Macau Red Cross Building, Professor F.C. Smales, Dean of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, Professor H.I. Lei, President of Macau Polytechnic Institute and a representative from the Macau Government, will address the gathering. Professor L.K. Cheung, Associate Dean in Postgraduate Teaching and Continuing Education at the HKU Faculty, will give a presentation on Future Plan of Continuing Education.
The Inauguration Ceremony is followed by a scientific symposium from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with Professor L.K. Cheung, Dr. L.H. Kei and Dr. W.K. Leung making academic presentations.

An Inauguration Ceremony of Continuing Education Programme to be held on Sunday, May 19, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in Macau will mark the beginning of a new phase in the link between the Hong Kong and Macau dental communities.
