The recipients of the Honorary University Fellowships will be:
Mr Kenneth Fang Hung, who is a Court member of the University of Hong Kong since 1990. Mr Fang is the Chairman of Fang Brothers Knitting Limited. He was the Chairman (1990 to 2001) and a member (1987 to 1990) of Board of Governors of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, the teaching hospital of HKU's Faculty of Dentistry. During his chairmanship, he has looked after the well being of the Philip Dental Hospital and thus benefited students and staff of the HKU's Faculty of Dentistry in their pursuit of academic and clinical excellence.
Mr James Hughes-Hallett, Chairman of Swire Pacific Ltd, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd and of John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd. The partnership between Swire Group and the University of Hong Kong started in 1911 when John Swire & Sons made its first gift of £40,000 to the endowment of the University of Hong Kong. In a personal capacity, Mr Hughes-Hallett has been a Council member of the University of Hong Kong since 1999, providing the University with valuable insight gained in the business sector and through keen observation of local community and its trends.
Dr Michael Lau Wai Mai, who devoted 36 years in service with the University of Hong Kong. He was appointed as the Curator of the Fung Ping Shan Museum (now, the University Museum & Art Gallery), in 1963 and was responsible for the Museum's expansion to its present status, occupying both the Fung Ping Shan Building and three floors of the TT Tsui Building. He was also an honorary lecturer at Department of Chinese (1961 to 1977) and Department of Fine Arts (1981 to 1996). Dr Lau has been active in services in government boards and civic associations. The award of the MBE in 1997 was a recognition of his contribution in civic services, particularly in the Antiquities Advisory Board and as Chairman of Archaeology Committee.
Dr Lo Ka Shui, who is now the Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of the Great Eagle Holdings Limited. He is presently a Director of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and Chairman of the Listing Committee of the Growth Enterprise Market. He was also the Chairman of the Hospital Authority from 2000 until September this year. With his medical training and wide-ranging experience of service in different companies, Dr Lo has contributed much to the healthcare sector and especially the development of the Hospital Authority.
Dr Lui Che Woo, a renowned entrepreneur in Hong Kong. He is the Chairman of the K Wah Group, the parent company of K Wah International Holdings Ltd, K Wah Construction Materials Ltd, K Wah Properties (Holdings) Ltd and Stanford Hotels International. Dr Lui has been active in charitable activities and community service and is particularly devoted in facilitating the growth of education in Hong Kong and in the mainland. He is a Founding Honorary President of the University of Hong Kong Foundation for Educational Development and Research and HKU's Law Library has been named Lui Che Woo Law Library in appreciate of his generous donation of HK$5 million to HKU.
Professor Richard Y H Yu, an alumna of HKU. Professor Yu founded the Division of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine of HKU's Faculty of Medicine in 1960s'. He is the Foundation Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians (HKCP) and has served as president of HKCP since 1998. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and has been instrumental in steering the standards of physician training and education in Hong Kong up to international standards.
The Honorary University Fellowships were created in 1995 as a mark of the distinction and esteem with which the recipients are held by the University and to better relationships with the community at large.
The presentation ceremony will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, December 12, 2002 in Rayson Huang Theatre on the University's main campus. Members of the Press are cordially invited to attend.

HKU to Present Honorary University Fellowships to Six Distinguished People

Six outstanding individuals will receive the Honorary University Fellowship on December 12, 2002. The Fellowships will be presented by Dr the Honourable David K.P. Li, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
