Speaker: Lloyd Axworthy, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's special envoy for Ethiopia-Eritrea & former foreign minister of Canada, President & Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg.
Lloyd Axworthy is internationally known for his advancement of the human security concept, in particular, the Ottawa Treaty which is a landmark global treaty banning anti-personnel landmines. For this leadership on landmines, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. His efforts in establishing the International Criminal Court and the Protocol on child soliders earned him the North-South Institute's Peace Award. He is now Chairman and Vice Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg, and remains involved in international affairs matters and lectures widely in Canada, US and abroad.

United Nation Special Envoy to speak at HKU On Human Security in a Globalized World

HKU helps you keep an eye on the world. Lloyd Axworthy, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's current special envoy for Ethiopia-Eritrea and former foreign minister of Canada, will speak at HKU tomorrow on 22 November 2005 on "human security in a globalized world" to explore the implications of global issues such as infectious diseases, climate change, poverty and conflict on human security today.
